This was one of the favourite residences of the Esterhazy family, who helped the Habsburg establish their rule in Hungary. From 1663 to 1672, on the site of a Medieval fortress, Prince Paul Esterhazy commissioned Carlone to build this quadrilateral framing a court of honour, which was modified around 1800 with a Neo-Classical portico and a terrace. The large Esterhazy Museum and Haydn Room, where the musician conducted the prince's court orchestra, are open to visitors.
