Get to know Mozart's CitySalzburg on this guided tour that stops at the top sights, as well as heading to the Hohensalzburg Fortress. Towering above the city, it affords impressive panoramic views.
Begin your day discovering Mozart's citySalzburg at the Palace of Mirabell, built in 1606 for the Archbishop Wolf Dietrich and now used as the city's administrative offices. Then, it's on to pass by the Mozarteum (the University of Music, one of the world's most prestigious) and the Marionette Theatre before reaching the Market Square. The Market Square is home to the Landestheater (regional theater), the Baroque-style Trinity church, as well as Mozart's Wohnhaus (residence), where the composer lived for many years. The tour then crosses the Salzach River and goes past old fortications and courts of law before reaching Hellbrunn Palace. The palace was built at the start of the 17th century by Santino Solari and used as a hunting lodge and weekend residence by Salzburg's archbishops. Heading back to the city center, the tour passes the Palace of Frohnburg and the Nonnberg Abbey, situated beneath the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress. Going through Siegmund's Gate into the Old Town, the Festival Halls, Old University, Horse Pond, Getreidegasse, and Blasius Church are pointed out. The tour finishes in Mozart Square, home to a Mozart statue, Cathedral, Old Residence of the Archbishops, and the Fortress Hohensalzburg. This activity includes a ticket for a return journey up to Hohensalzburg Fortress, which includes a ride on the Festungsbahn (funicular) and entry into the fortress.
