Originally, this palace is a present from Wolf Dietrich, a real Renaissance prince both by his panache and excesses, to his mistress, Salome Alt. It was remodelled, then burned down, before being rebuilt in 1818, and is now the City Hall. From its prestigious past, it still retains the virtuosity of its monumental staircase, with cherubs, sculpted by Donner, the superbly decorated Marble Room and French-style gardens, designed by Fischer von Erlach in 1690.
