From the Mönchsberg terrace, to which you arrive by lift, just below the Café Winkler, you can see how Salzburg is divided in two, between an anonymous and modern city, mainly spead out on the Salzach's right bank, and the town nestling between the river and fortress, at your feet, spiked with domes and bell towers, which, often, bathe in the softness of an Italian-type light. Towards the south, the deep green of Alpine secondary ranges stands out from the sky.
