Traditionally associated with health and wealth, salt gave its name to the Salzkammergut and, until relatively recently, a leading economic role. Some 76 lakes, including those of St Wolfgangsee, Attersee and Gosaus, plus countless summits and the imposing massifs of the Dachstein and Totes Gebirge add to the appeal of this long-renowned region.
