Scharnstein's Renaissance castle houses the Austrian Crime Museum, which charts the history of the fight against crime, from the Middle Ages through to the issues of the present day such as terrorism. A vivarium, fitted out in a cellar below, has a collection of over a hundred snakes, scorpions and giant spiders from around the world.
