Schwaz was the biggest silver production centre in the world 500 years ago. This gives visitors the rare opportunity, not to be missed, of seeing a very old silver mine. A pit train takes them some 800 metres into the heart of the Sigmund gallery where a labyrinth of tunnels can be accessed via ladders and steps. An exhibition graphically explains the boring and mining techniques.
