Another park opened by Josef II in 1775 is renowned for the famous Augarten porcelain factory. Founded in 1718, it was one of the very first in Europe to have partially discovered the secret of making china. Its «beehive» monogram is famous among connoisseurs. To the south of the park is another Viennese institution; the Wiener Sängerknaben or «Vienna Boys' Choir» has been housed in the fine Augarten Palace since 1948.
