More of a precinct than a street, Graben is one of the busiest pedestrian thoroughfares in Vienna, lined with shops selling articles made in Vienna and cafés and restaurants whose terraces extend across the street echoing to the music and song of street performers. In the middle stands the Pestsäule or Plague Pillar, a reminder of the horrific epidemic of 1679.
