Millstatt, with the peaks of the Kreuzeck and Reisseck in the background, lies on the shore of Lake Millstatt, whose water temperature reaches 26°C in Summer. Its southern climate makes it a popular holiday resort. The abbey, whose museum gives a general idea of its turbulent past and rich religious and secular art, retains a cloister and abbey church with a magnificent Romanesque door. The interior boasts frescoes and furnishings from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period.
