Lying between the Tyrol and Bavaria, the “Alpenpark Karwendel” nature reserve was established in 1928. Four mountain chains (north Karwendel, Vomper Kette, Gleirsch-Halltal-Kette and the northern chain overlooking Innsbruck) and the three main valleys between them make up a park of 900km2 unique of its kind in central Europe. Little gorges and steep ridges alternate with green meadows and broad forest, where much endangered flora and fauna thrives.
