The imposing silhouette of the fortified castle, built between the 15C and 17C, also known as the Gmündner Schloss, dominates the little town. It was partly destroyed by an earthquake in 1690 and a fire in 1886, but has been restored and converted into an art and cultural centre. It also offers visitors a restaurant and a fine viewpoint from the top of the keep.
