A 4.5km-long route from Ehrwald runs between Larchen and Buchen to Obermoos, where the Zugspitze Tyrolean cable car lower station is locatated. On arriving at the the top, the view southwards takes in the snow-covered peaks of Hohe Tauern, the Tyrolese Alps, and the Ortler and Bernina massifs. To the east and closer are the Arlberg mountains with Säntis in the Appenzell beyond. Dominating the scene are the Allgäu and Ammergau mountains.
