The museum is well worth visiting, especially on account of its displays dedicated to the city’s history from the 16C Livonian War to the Red Army bombardment of 1944. Objects, models and furniture are displayed over several floors of the castle keep, built by the Danes in the 13C. At a height of 51m, it offers fine views over the surrounding area, notably the Russian fortress of Ivangorod.
