A Weekend in Antwerp (video)

A Weekend in Antwerp (video)

Georges Rouzeau - 2011-10-17

Antwerp is a city that has it all: an exceptional cultural heritage, museums galore (including the brand new MAS), designer hotels, hip bars, fashion and more. Be sure to have a look at our video and address book before you go.

Is it art or is it architecture? The delight of discovering Antwerp begins as soon as you arrive in its colossal train station and continues all the way through your visit. With our address book in hand, you’ll be able to take full advantage of everything Antwerp has to offer. Another video is dedicated to the brand new museum of the city’s history, le MAS (see our video), a must-see since the moment it opened.

Our addresses

Where to stay

L’Hôtel O
Brainchild of the architect Jo Peeters, O is the quintessential designer hotel: large white rooms, walls of exposed brick, concrete ceilings, floor lighting, sunken baths, and so on.
Approximately € 165/£ 143 per night
Leopold de Waelplaats, 34
2000 Antwerpen
Belgium
Tel: (32) 3 292 65 00.

Dining out

Le Dôme
Julien Burlat serves exquisite Michelin-starred cuisine in a splendid late 18th century manor. Before Dôme, an establishment of this calibre had been missing from the trove of Antwerp’s many treasures.

Grote Hondstraat, 2
2018 Antwerpen
Belgium

Restaurant Hippodroom
Classic. This institution gets its name from a theatre built in 1903 and demolished in 1970. Behind the facade of a fine old town house lies a very pleasant modern dining room with a long bar and materials (brass and marble) of the posh brasserie genre. Well-prepared and perfectly presented food, with a selection of Flemish and French dishes available à la carte. Meals cost approximately € 30-40/ £ 26-35.
Leopold de Waelplaats 10 B
2000 Antwerpen
Belgium

Renaissance
Trendy. A new establishment, pure white and ultra-designer-chic situated on the ground floor of the Flanders Fashion Institute in a handsome building. Renaissance is run by a family from Sardinia; they own several other venues in the city and also produce wine and olive oil. The service is efficient but our tuna steak was decidedly overcooked - we hope it was an oversight.
