This late 19C district built to the south of the city lies not far from Escaut and has gradually fallen into disuse. However, since the early 1980s, it has seen some redevelopment with the arrival of the Museum of Photography and the Museum of Contemporary Art in two old and somewhat charming warehouses. Among the most remarkable renovations have been those of the house of the liberal people Help U Zelve, the De Vijf Werelddelen building and the Zuiderpershuis.
