This large X-shaped building was built in the 1960s using a reinforced metal frame typical of its time. Its name has long been familiar to citizens of the EU, since it was built as the seat of the European administration in Brussels, and consequently is an iconic symbol which has often been the focus for demonstrations. Now completely renovated (to the dismay of some who admired its original appearance), it continues to house European bureaucrats behind its modular-panelled façade.
