This 84m-high tower is a memorial to the heroes of the Battle of the Yser on the river's opposite bank. It bears the letters A.V.V.-V.V.K. for the motto: "All for Flanders, Flanders for Christ". The panoramic view from the top covers the Flanders plain and Dixmuide and, on a clear day (right to left), the belfries of Bruges, Ostend and Nieuwpoort, as well as the De Rode and De Zwarte Flemish peaks. A first-floor museum recalls the battle.
