This nature reserve, together with the Pijnven Wood (near Eksel to the south) and Holven Wood (near Overpelt to the east) is part of the 12 000-ha Lower Kempen Park, spread throughout the province of Limburg. A wooden post windmill (1809) stands near the road north of the reserve. It is the starting point for several signposted footpaths across the pine forest.
