Mariembourg : Michelin's recommendations
This small town is named after its founder (1542), Mary of Hungary, Governor of the Low Countries. The once fortified town used to face the French town of Maubert-Fontaine. Mariembourg was reputed to be impregnable, but passed under French (Henri II), Spanish, then Prussian rule (1815). It is the departure point of the Trois Vallées railway line.
