Among the La Hulpe hills are numerous castles and mansions, including the 220-ha Domaine Solvay. Formerly the property of the Solvay family who became rich in industry, it was bequeathed to the State. The magnificent park, dotted with lakes, is overlooked by a château from 1840. The estate farm is now home to the Folon Foundation, a remarkable collection of 300 works by the celebrated artist Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005), who was anxious that these should remain undispersed.
