Of special importance to the city’s inhabitants and visible from all over Brussels, the dome of the world’s largest Art Deco building rises to a height of 90m atop the Koekelberg hill. Started in 1905, this basilica in brick, concrete and stone was finished in 1970. The apse has a large Christ on the Cross by George Minne. Inside the gilt-yellow terracotta-covered walls circumscribe a huge space. Note the ciborium above the high altar surmounted by a bronze calvary and four angels by Harry Elström.
