The construction works which started in 1982 and finished in 2002 on the Canal du Centre, between Strépy-Bracquegnies and Thieu, gave birth to the world's tallest boat lift. With a height difference of 73,15 m between the upstream and downstream reaches, it can accomodate vessels of up to 1,350 tonnes. The tour allows visitors to discover the machines and enjoy the panorama, and includes a 20mn video on the construction and operation of the lift, models, blueprints and sketches.
