The romantic outline of this castle dominates the town. Owned by the Grand Duchy since 1977, this castle was built initially by the counts of Vianden and was once the home of the Orange-Nassau family. The castle has since been the focus of restoration work which gave back its 18C character. The heyday of the counts of Vianden was in the 12 and 13C, and most of the buildings date from this period. The castle includes a Small Palace, a Large Palace and a Romanesque chapel.
