Arembepe : Michelin's recommendations

This choice stopover on the Estrada do Coco is a peaceful fishing village set around a church and a port, where colourful little boats bob about on the water. The harbour is formed by a barrier reef, from which children perform daring dives. Since the 1960s, the coastline, edged with dunes and coconut palms, has been home to an aldeia hippy, a hippy community living in rammed-clay shacks with thatched roofs and no electricity. Its young, dreadlocked population makes a living selling crafts. The best spots for bathing can be found on the banks of the Rio Capivara in the late afternoon.
