Opposite the Mercado Ver-o-Peso, on the other side of the street, housed beneath a wrought iron frame, is the Mercado de Carne. The market was opened in 1907 and today you can still see the butchers cutting up their meat throughout the day, among the flies. The hygiene standards will no doubt strike you as being from another era but when it was opened the building was considered the height of progress, in particular because the metal grate on the roof kept out the vultures...

    Refait à neuf en 2012. L'hygiène est aux standards européennes avec des vitrines réfrigérées mais surtout les bouchers aiment être pris en photo alors n'hésitez pas!
