The Pantheon, completed by Niemeyer in 1985, was built in the form of a dove. It honours the heros of Brazilian history who fought for freedom and democracy, a list of whose names are inscribed in the Steel Book. On the first floor is a dark room whose only light comes through a stained-glass window by Marianne Peretti. On the wall you can see black-and-white panels depicting the Minas Gerais rebellion, which were painted by João Camara.
