Cachoeira : Michelin's recommendations

Cachoeira, a peaceful little town built on the hillside, lies inland and extends the length of the Rio Paraguaçu. It was formerly at the heart of the sugar cane and tobacco trade awaken a sort of nostalgia in travellers' hearts, and its cobbled streets, colonial houses and Baroque buildings have earned it the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Renowned nowadays for its candomblé ceremonies, it is also a major hub of artistic creation. An iron bridge connects it to São Félix on the opposite bank.
