As you make your way up the tributaries, you will get a glimpse of the numerous Caboclo communities which live along the rivers. A 5hr boat trip from Manaus takes you to the Anavilhanas Islands, one of the largest river archipelagos in the world, made up of more than 400 islands dispersed over 100km. This nature reserve is a prime place for bird watching, and for spotting manatees and Amazon river dolphins.
