Ouro Preto : Michelin's recommendations
Ouro Preto is famous on two counts. First and foremost for its magnificent Baroque buildings constructed in the 18C and thanks to which it earned a place among UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. The Igreja São Francisco de Assis or the Igreja de N. S. do Pilar, to name just two of its churches, are pure masterpieces. Secondly, and more tragically, it is known as the town where a handful of men decided to stand up to colonial power, foreshadowing later independence. To find out more, visit the Museu da Inconfidência.
