Head to Carioca Squareonce Rio's main source of drinking water, transported in by the Aqueducts of Lapaand climb aboard Rio's last remaining tram for the journey to Santa Teresa.
Your 20-minute tram ride follows the aqueducts, which have been transformed into the tram route, before letting you off in the Largo dos Guimaraes area of Santa Teresa. Set on a hill overlooking Rio, Santa Teresa affords dazzling views of Rio's city center and the Guanabara Bay. Wander the neighborhood's cobblestone streets on foot as you discover the region's architecture, art galleries, restaurants, and local costumes. Highlights in this artistic area also include the Chacara de Ceu Museum and the Ruins Park. As you continue on toward the Lapa District, be sure to stop by the Carmelitas' convent and descend Selaron's picturesque staircase.
