On your left as you come onto the Terreiro de Jesus stands Basílica da Sé (or Catedral Basílica), built by the Jesuits between 1657 and 1672, using the noblest of materials: gold, marble from Portugal and jacaranda wood. A canny mix of Baroque and Rococo styles! Don't miss the remarkably ornate high altar.
