Bibendum
The façade of this church, illuminated by white light bulbs in the evening, can be seen from afar, perched on the Colina Sagrada (Sacred Hill). The church (1754) is a strong symbol of the religious syncretism of Bahians. Attend mass on Friday (5pm), a day attributed to Oxalá, god of Creation; the entire congregation is dressed in white, colour of Orixá. The church also houses one of Salvador's most beautiful religious festivals, the Lavagem do Bonfim. Inside, a room brimming with commemorative plaques is testament to the fervour of the people's devotion to the patron saint of Bahia.
