Installed in a superb 1836 solar, the Maranhão Museum of Art and History reconstructs the interior of a 19C house with all the bourgeois trappings including furniture, porcelain, music rooms. The museum gives an insight into the refined lifestyle of the Brazilian elites of the time and provides an opportunity to see the becoming architecture of their homes. The visit takes you on to the Museu de Arte Sacra in an adjoining sobrado, with its display of exhibits from the 18C-19C.
