The Museu de Artes Visuais will impress fans of azulejos with its collection of Portuguese, French and German ceramics (18C-19C), which were collected from façades and patios in the historic centre. The museum also owns works by Maranhenses artists. The magnificent house (19C) in which the museum is located is in itself worth visiting. There is a lovely view from inside that sweeps over the historical centre and the roofs of the Mercado das Tulhas.
