The Blagoevgrad History Museum covers all the aspects of Bulgarian Macedonia: geology and mineralogy, fauna and flora, ethnography, Roman and Thracian archaeology (amazing set of low-relief family portraits), medieval (superb 13C wooden statue) and contemporary art. Recent history is also dealt with through the struggle for the liberation of Macedonia. Not to be missed is the tribute paid to the man whose name was given to the town in 1950: Dimitar Blagoev (1856-1924), founder of the Bulgarian communist party.
