The cobbled Petko-Slavejkov Street, one of the old town's thoroughfares, is lined with houses in the National Awakening style. Whether grand or unassuming, restored or neglected, most of them have been converted into taverns, art galleries or souvenir shops. Worth noting: some houses feature unusual wooden shutters which close off the front steps and the doors at the same time.
