Velingrad Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

At the centre of an attractive ring of peaks, Velingrad is a renowned spa town and popular high-altitude destination. Fragrantly shaded large parks, old villas and fountains grace the centre, at the heart of which is a pedestrian precinct named after Khan Asparuh. A walking expedition into the Rhodopes can take in Lake Batak and the Stara Gorge. The uprising of 21 April 1876 against the Turks, and the resultant massacre that took place in Batak, have made the village a place of reverence.
