It is here that the famous Bulgarian roses that enliven this valley in springtime are grown. But the “valley of roses” has much more to offer: the superb scenery of the central Balkans as a backdrop, traces of the Thracians (gradually revealing their secrets), and episodes from the struggle for national independence that has forged the country’s identity. Thracian remains abound, such as the tombs of Kazanlak and Starosel.
