The lovely village of Rožen consists of a small square lined with picturesque houses dating from the National Awakening period. Their wooden balconies, on which gourds are placed to dry, are absolutely charming. Take a break at the terrace of the local inn, it is well worth the detour! The road climbing to Rožen Monastery leads to an open plateau where you can see, near a church, the flower-decked grave of Jane Sandanski, the hero of the struggle for the liberation of Bulgarian Macedonia.
