Twenty-one galleries on three floors contain displays that encompass the human history of Alberta. In addition the museum mounts temporary exhibits of art and sculpture.A highlight is the Nitsitapiisinni Gallery (third-floor), which reflects the long and colorful history, especially the period of the 1870s, of the Blackfoot Indians. Note in particular the fine beadwork, the huge teepee and the 96-feather Stoney chieftain's headdress. European settlement in the province is presented through exhibits focusing on the fur trade, the North West Mounted Police, missionaries, the Canadian Pacific Railway, farming and ranching, Métis life, the discovery of oil and Alberta life in the 1920s and 30s.
