Located in a magnificent park where the river widens to form the Chambly Basin, this now-restored fort was originally established by Jacques de Chambly in 1665 to defend the Richelieu rapids on the crucial trade route between Montreal and Albany, New York. Today it's the only fortified complex in Quebec dating back to the French Regime. The interpretation center inside the fort features slide shows and dioramas about the history of Fort Chambly and its occupants under the French Regime.
