Huron Historic Gaol
Huron Historic Gaol : Michelin's recommendations
Housed the county jail (gaol is the British spelling) until 1972. Visitors may enter the cells, library, kitchen, laundry room and outdoor yards. The top floor actually served as the courtroom, where sentences were handed out. Constructed in 1901, the adjoining governor's house was the residence of the overseer, or gaoler, and his family. For a small fee, you can have your mug shot taken as a memento.
