This grand stone house with its Neoclassical portico entry stands on a hill overlooking Hamilton Bay. The residence was completed in 1835 by Sir Allan Napier MacNab-soldier, lawyer, politician and member of the Family Compact. In 1838 he was knighted by Queen Victoria for fighting against Mackenzie. From 1854 to 1856 MacNab served as prime minister of the Province of Canada.
