The Colin Range to the north and the Maligne Range to the south hem in this lovely lake. From its highest levels during the snowmelt of early summer, the water body gradually shrinks as the season progresses, sometimes becoming only mud flats. Intriguingly the lake has no surface outlet, draining instead through sink holes in the limestone bedrock and resurfacing in the waters of the Maligne River. The road follows the edge of the lake for 8km/5mi with several advantageous viewpoints.
