Bellevue House Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

This somewhat exotic Italian-styled villa contrasts sharply with Kingston's more traditional stone buildings. When completed (c.1840), it caused quite a sensation and, for a short time (1848 to 1849), served as the residence of Canada's first prime minister. A Scot by birth, Sir John A. Macdonald (1815-91) spent much of his youth in Kingston, and opened his first law office in the city in 1835. The house is furnished to reflect Macdonald's time of residence. In the visitor centre there are exhibits and an introductory film (8min).
