Built along the banks of the St. Lawrence, L'Islet-sur-Mer originally consisted of two seigneuries conceded to the Couillard and Bélanger families by Frontenac in 1677. Since the 18C, the community's economy has thrived on maritime activity. The excellent Maritime Museum here is well worth a visit to soak yourself in regional maritime history.
