Bibendum
Bordered by Rue Saint-Jacques to the east, Rue Sherbrooke to the west, and Saint-Denis and Atwater streets to the north and south, the city's commercial and cultural heart lies to the west of Old Montreal. The downtown developed into a prosperous and bustling quarter during the late 18C and 19C, and today features some of Montreal's most famous buildings and institutions. A walk along Sherbrooke, one of the most prestigious arteries in the city, reveals a lively retail sector alongside choice residences. Rue Sainte-Catherine is home to major department stores (Ogilvy, La Baie, Eaton Centre) and commercial centres, while Avenue McGill College is lined with the city's landmark 20C skyscrapers.
