This enormous edifice (1989) of rose marble blocks partitioned by sheets of pastel blue glass occupies the entire left side of the block between Rue Sainte-Catherine and Boulevard de Maisonneuve. Conceived by the architects E. Zeidler, E. Argun and P. Rose, the tower's bold design features a cylinder encased in a square base. The glass-walled atrium rises five floors from the metro level; a panoramic elevator permits visitors to admire the three-tiered central bronze fountain. With more than a hundred boutiques, a restaurant and numerous exotic food vendors, the atrium is a popular lunchtime spot for downtown Montrealers.
