North Bay : Michelin's recommendations
This resort centre on the shores of Lake Nipissing lies on the ancient canoe route linking the St. Lawrence valley to the upper Great Lakes. The La Vase portage connected the waters of Trout Lake and the Ottawa and Mattawa rivers with Lake Nipissing, the French River and Georgian Bay. Today these waters used solely for recreational purposes. The area was largely wilderness until the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1882, when it developed into a railway transport hub, supported by lumber and mining industries.
